Nicola Ellis - thoughts
Open Door residency
My approach to this residency was to continue expanding my knowledge of metals and their impact on human culture.
The BEYOND Open Door weekend was full of probing discussions with a group of generous, interesting and intelligent people with diverse interests. This has pushed me to consider new areas of related subjects - celestial occurrences- and why I have been compelled to witness them as often as possible throughout my life.
Between now and the BEYOND event in June, I will use ‘space metals’ that fall to earth in meteorites and the concept of asteroid mining as starting points for reading and field research. Within these activities I will consider how and why we attribute value to objects, phenomena and experiences, relating to outer space and otherwise.
The final outcome of these activities is still a mystery.
