Carole McCourt - Saturday April 27
Leadscape walk and Drawing Workshop
Meet 10am, ACA gallery, Allenheads - Ends 3.30pm
Max 12 people
The walk will be at a slow comfortable pace, taking up to 2 hours to cover approximately 4 miles. It will allow plenty of time to have conversations and get up close to details. Bring snacks and drinks for the walk and a packed lunch for back in the gallery, or treat yourself to lunch or cake at the local Hemmel café. Wear suitable attire for all weather and rough terrain.
This event is part of the CONNECT project supported by Newcastle University Business School.
It is underpinned by research exploring the value of real-life encounters, bringing people together through stimulating experiences to explore, converse, sense and create. Creative outcomes will be presented at an exhibition at ACA Gallery in July.
Carole McCourt is an artist interested in ‘noticing the unnoticed’ with walking and drawing at the core of her practice.
Join Carole McCourt and Steve Cousins on a fascinating walk of discovery across the Leadscape of the North Pennines and experience how the geology of the area has dictated the valley’s mining heritage and how it still affects the way we live today.
This circular walk starts in Allenheads Village and will meander around the fells taking in some breathtaking views whilst revealing hidden remnants of the industrial heritage.
We encourage you to bring your mobile phones or cameras and sound recorders to collect evidence of your findings and experiences on the walk. We will provide you with mini sketch pads and pencils. All your resulting media will feed into the workshop back in the gallery. The workshop will focus on making drawings, including the special technique of metal-point, demonstrated by Carole. All art materials provided.
